Proclamation Declaring the Agreement on Social Security Between Canada and the Federal Republic of Germany in Force April 1, 1988

To All to Whom these Presents shall come or whom the same may in anyway concern,

Whereas section 22.3 of the Old Age Security Act , being chapter O-6 of the Revised Statutes of Canada, 1970, as amended, provides as follows:

And Whereas by Order in Council P.C. 1985-3603 of December 12, 1985 Footnote * , Her Excellency the Governor General in Council declared the Agreement on Social Security between the Government of Canada and the Government of the Federal Republic of Germany , signed at Bonn on November 14, 1985, to be in force;

And Whereas subsections 22.4(1) and (2) of the said Act provide as follows:

And Whereas the said Order in Council was laid before Parliament on January 21, 1986;

And Whereas no motion for the consideration of either House was filed pursuant to subsection 22.4(2) of the said Act before the twentieth sitting day after the said Order in Council was laid before Parliament;

And Whereas, pursuant to subsection 22.4(2) of the said Act, on the thirtieth sitting day after the said Order in Council was laid before Parliament, being March 11, 1986, the said Order came into force;

And Whereas the said Agreement, by its terms, comes into force on the first day of the second month following the month in which the instruments of ratification are exchanged;

And Whereas the Government of Canada and the Government of the Federal Republic of Germany exchanged instruments of ratification on February 26, 1988;

And Whereas by Order in Council P.C. 1988-1273 of June 23, 1988 Footnote ** , Her Excellency the Governor General in Council directed that a proclamation do issue giving notice that the said Agreement is in force as of April 1, 1988.

Now Know You that We, by and with the advice of Our Privy Council for Canada, do by this Our Proclamation give notice that the annexed Agreement on Social Security between Canada and the Federal Republic of Germany , signed at Bonn on November 14, 1985, is in force as of April 1, 1988.

Of All Which Our Loving Subjects and all others whom these Presents may concern are hereby required to take notice and to govern themselves accordingly.

In Testimony Whereof, We have caused these Our Letters to be made Patent and the Great Seal of Canada to be hereunto affixed. Witness: Our Right Trusty and Well beloved Jeanne Sauvé, a Member of Our Privy Council for Canada, Chancellor and Principal Companion of Our Order of Canada, Chancellor and Commander of Our Order of Military Merit upon whom We have conferred Our Canadian Forces’ Decoration, Governor General and Commander-in-Chief of Canada.

At Our Government House, in Our City of Ottawa, this twenty-third day of June in the year of Our Lord one thousand nine hundred and eighty-eight and in the thirty-seventh year of Our Reign.

Desiring to further relations between the two States in the field of social security and to take account of changes in their legislation,

Have agreed as follows:
